Local Brothers Find Niche Market
5/17/2005 For Immediate Release.

Despite what some might consider a sluggish local economy, two brothers are finding that their specialized service and product is creating quite a demand. Scott and Tim Cramer of First Glass, Inc. started installing custom frameless shower enclosures about 7 years ago.

The Cramer brothers now average between 3 to 6 frameless shower doors per month and service areas from Galena, Dubuque, Peoria, Bettendorf and even as far as Platteville Wisconsin. "Word of mouth is our biggest form of advertisement", Scott said. "Designers and builders find out about us and then word gets around."

At the moment they have several jobs in progress only one of which was from Galesburg. The others were from places like Genesio, Bettendorf, Maquon and Smithshire. "Frameless shower enclosures take a lot of patience on the part of the customer," Tim said. "They take anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks to complete. These are made one of a kind just for the homeowner. These shower doors won't fit anywhere else. If a wall is out of plumb or the base is out of level, we make it to fit that shape. So needless to say we can't even get production measurements until the tile work is completed."

Shower doors are usually one of the last things required for a building or remodeling project," Scott said. "By the time we get a call the customer is over budget and behind schedule. I think that is why we have been so successful. Normal lead times for this type of project used to be 8 weeks. We have set the new standard with our 5 to 6 weeks. Customers are thrilled with our competive pricing and the amount of experience we have." To date the Cramer Brothers have done almost 250 frameless shower doors in the past 7 years.
